The Washington Redskins scored the most points by a team in a game, with 72 points against the Giants; what an achievement! The team later changed its name to ‘Commanders’ in 2022. They decided to withdraw Native American references, such as the former Cleveland Indians (now named Cleveland Guardians) and Edmonton Eskimos (now called Edmonton Elks). Since 1992 eleven trademark applications were rejected by USPTO for including the Word ‘Redskins’, and six trademarks owned by the Redskins Football Team were canceled by the TTAB in 2014.

Patent US 3,482,037 was granted for a home security system using CCTV. African American Mary Van Brittan Brown and her husband, Albert L. Brown, developed this invention. The system consisted of a slidable camera able to record through four holes conceived in a door and transmit the image to an interior monitor; the system had a remote control unit to operate the camera as desired and a microphone to speak to anyone at the door. Brown later stated that her inspiration was taken from the delays of the Police Department to attend emergency calls from the Queens neighborhood where she lived.

Alan Turing received a posthumous Royal pardon from Queen Elizabeth II. The computer pioneer and codebreaker whose work turned out to be instrumental in stopping World War II, was then convicted in 1952 for gross indecency after having an affair with a 19-year old man, followed by his chemical castration and his subsequent dead by alleged suicide in 1954.

Unfortunately, his code-cracking work stopped just after the conviction, but we can still be thankful for his contribution to science and for saving around 14 million lives.
