Google, Inc. launched the beta version of Google Patent Search, starting with over 7 million patent documents granted by USPTO in its database and allowing a quicker text search within said documents to save valuable time for inventors, examiners and attorneys.

December 18 to 26

One of the biggest celebrations within the Jewish community is held from this year’s 18 to 26 of December. Hanukkah is a Jewish festival commemorating the recovery of Jerusalem.

As a part of these celebrations, some developments have been seen regarding the classic Menorah used to light a candle for each day of Hanukkah; US Designs 166, 358 & 185, 199 are some examples. 

December 22, 1882

Edward H. Johnson, vice-president of Edison Electric Light Company, presented the first electrically illuminated Christmas tree at his house in New York.

The tree had over 80 red, blue and white light bulbs, and after the presentation, people started using Christmas lights for the holiday season, which has derived in a huge amount of inventions and patent registrations.

Today we celebrate Christmas, a word which is a shortened form of “Christ’s Mass” and wherein the Christians commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. However, this day has gone beyond the Christian world to become a day to gather with relatives and loved ones for everyone.

Several trademarks related to the term: “Christmas”, or Spanish: “Navidad” have been granted by IP Offices all around the world; however, any person is free to use them on any good or product to wish someone a happy holiday, since people associate the phrase with a common sentiment during Christmas, instead of an individual business.
