Pop culture and IP
In this edition of our monthly special, we will analyze and discuss the applications of intellectual property laws to aspects of pop culture such as movies, television, music, sports, fashion, and lifestyle.
The combination of practices, beliefs and objects that embody our culture ultimately shape our lives and even our own identities, and today we will try to determine how does the Intellectual Property system can impact our culture, to view another perspective on how much Intellectual Property can impact our social system and individuality in its core.
Media, entertainment and leisure, fashion and trends, art and expression, linguistic conventions, images and spectacles and all other elements of culture permeate the fabric of human life, manipulating consumption choices and political views, and provide meaningful elements out of which people shape their own identities.
While studying some of these popular cultural elements and their significant impact within the environment they inhabit we will try to understand how the law may respond in the context of this cultural milieu.
Through this issue, we will try to keep the tone contemporary by resorting to different media outlets and formats which not only speak about the relevance and impact of IP in our modern culture, but which also demonstrate firsthand how this two are always related and in constant change.
