January 15, 1967

The first AFL- NFL world championship was played, wherein the green bay packers defeated the kansas city chiefs with a score of 35-10 to become the first ever super bowl champs.

Some years earlier, on october 27, 1925, john e. Maynard obtained the first patent (US 1,559,117) for a ´football´ which comprised all the features that settled the basis for the football as we currently know it.

January 25, 1924 

The first ever Winter olympic games were held in Chamonix, France, wherein over 250 athletes from 16 nations competed in 16 events, with Norway dominating the medal count by winning 17 of them.

The first Winter olympic gold medal was won by Charles Jewtraw of the U.S. in the 500-meter speed skate. Other events, such as bobsleigh, curling, hockey, skiing and other types of skating were celebrated.

Later, in the 1998 Winter olympics, snowboarding was included as part of the program. The first snowboard patent (US 3,378,274) was granted on april 16, 1968 for an invention titled “surf-type snow ski” owned by S. R. Poppen.

Bill Bowerman, a track-and-field coach at the University of Oregon and his former student, Phil Knight, founded Blue Ribbon Sports, a sportswear company which, in the late 70s, was renamed to NIKE.

LeBron has a holding company, LBJ Trademarks LLC. He has 25 pending applications, 16 applications that are now dead, and 13 registered trademarks.

Josef Dieter (Sepp) Maier was born in Metten, Germany. Sepp Maier became the first goalkeeper in history to win every posible competition for club and country during the 70s.

His legacy as a player and coach is remarkable for German and international football/soccer; however, Maier is also known for his contribution to the GK gloves technology. Maier started using foam and rubber for additional protection of his fingers during the matches, on an era when almost no one GK used gloves for protection. Maier, in collaboration with ‘Reusch’ then developed gloves with enhanced grip for the ball, an invention that is still used nowadays.

The first public basketball game was played in Springfield, Massacussetts, a game created by James Naismith on December 1891, with the aim to maintain condition for young athletes during cold weather.

132 years later, basketball has become a top sport with an estimated 2.2 billion fans around the globe, which has derived in a high amounts of IP registers and inventions that covers everything from the teams’ names, to the basket-ball, to the board.
